Victorian art prize now open to talented refugee artists.
Paintings, drawings, photography and mixed media works by refugee artists who have arrived in Australia since 1970 are now being sought for this year’s Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize. A total prize pool of $15,000 will be shared by three primary prize-winners, a new arrival prize and eight honourable mentions. First prize is $5,000 plus a solo exhibition and artist in residence opportunity. Shortlisted entries will be showcased at the Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize exhibition, held at fortyfivedownstairs in Flinders Lane from June 6-16.
The Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize is presented by AMES and Multicultural Arts Victoria in partnership with VicHealth and Parks Victoria. It celebrates the skills, talents and creativity that refugees bring to Victoria and the social and cultural contributions they provide to our community.
Entries close Friday 20 April 2012.

Cardinia Shire Council’s Summer Music Series concerts are free, family friendly events around the bandstand between the café and the wading pool.
Te Hononga
"Tehononga o nga iwi – The gathering of the Tribes"
Consisting of approximately 50 performers, Te Hononga are a Maori Cultural entertainment group – learning and sharing traditional culture and language, predominantly through song. Incorporating traditional Maori protocol and contemporary items they are keen to share the sounds from the Pacific wherever they can. Through their performances they hope to encourage people from other cultures to stand up and share with the wider community.
So come along and enjoy a picnic in beautiful local parkland with a variety of summer time musical entertainment.
In the event of a declared code red or extreme fire weather alert, Emerald Lake Park will be closed and the concerts will be cancelled.
