Has dementia entered your life and you think you are the only one who doesn’t quite understand it? Well, you’re not alone! Come and learn what dementia looks like. Feel better informed to support those you care about. Learn about the Forget Me Not Cafe – dementia-friendly social groups in Cardinia Shire. Be introduced to Carer Gateway and the benefits of becoming a registered carer.

Hosted in partnership with Carer Gateway, Alfred Health, Dementia Australia, Outlook Community Centre and Cardinia Shire Council

Are you caring for a loved one with a chronic health condition or a diagnosed disease such as arthritis, cancer, kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Parkinson’s, diabetes, dementia, osteoporosis or stroke? The Alfred Health Carer team explains the wide range of Carer Gateway services and programs you can access for free once you become a registered carer.

My Aged Care provides support such as cleaning, shopping, and personal care to eligible seniors. To access these services, you need to have an assessment. If you or someone you know needs home support to stay safe and independent, this session will help get you started. Information covered will include:

  • How to register for My Aged Care
  • The application and assessment process
  • How to book an appointment with an Aged Care Specialist Officer
  • The Care Finder service

Seniors Festival 2024

Hosted in partnership with Cardinia Shire Council and Department of Families, Fairness and Housing

Throughout the campaign, we proudly hosted, supported and/or facilitated several local events including: 

Carers Morning Tea

Hosted by Outlook Community Centre and supported by Council, this event served up a delicious high tea and with a side of entertainment for carers and their loved ones to enjoy.

Royal Australian Navy Big Band (Live show and Devonshire tea)

Hosted by Cardinia Shire Council at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham, seniors enjoyed a pre-show Devonshire tea and a performance by the Royal Australian Navy Big Band, a dynamic ensemble, specialising in jazz and big band music. Talented musicians and vocalists showcased their versatility and skill, performing a repertoire of traditional swing, classic big band and popular music.  

Cultural Day with Cardinia Senior Citizens Group

Hosted by Cardinia Senior Citizens Group, supported by Council, this event held at Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Centre was a cultural delight offering Punjabi folk dancing, Indian cuisine, and information about the cultural festivities of Southeast Asia! Morning tea and lunch were provided.

Cardinia Men’s Shed Open Day

Hosted by Cardinia Men’s Shed and Living and Learning Inc in Pakenham, visitors watched and learned about Men’s Shed activities including woodwork, wood modelling, coin collection, art and more. The Cardinia Men’s Shed were also accepting toys for an upcoming Christmas event to be distributed by the Salvation Army.

Seniors Yoga Class

Aligned Leisure's yoga class at Lang Lang Memorial Hall improved mental health, relieved stress, increased flexibility, and boosted overall energy levels and vitality. It was a great way to find balance and connect with others in a supportive environment.

Health and Wellbeing with Officer Gurdwara

Hosted by Officer Gurdwara and presented by the National Ageing Research Institution (NARI), community members were invited to attend an activity-filled afternoon highlighting the importance of ageing well, covering healthy eating, exercise, hydration, and brain health.

Seniors Sports Day, hosted by Cardinia Life

Hosted by Cardinia Life and supported by Council, senior community members were treated to a fantastic day of fun and fitness designed specifically for the needs and preferences of our older generations. Whether a seasoned athlete or someone just looking to try something new, this event was perfect for all abilities. Attendees enjoyed a wide variety of sporting activities, friendly competitions and leisurely games, from Table tennis, pickleball and walking basketball, to group fitness classes and aqua sessions. The event encouraged seniors to stay active, socialise with peers, new and old, and experience a day filled with laughter and camaraderie. There were facility tours and information stalls, as well as prizes on offer throughout the day.

A fantastic lineup of free events, activities and workshops. Whether you were looking to learn something new, meet new people, or just have some fun, there was something for everyone!
