Cardinia Shire’s Arts and Culture Reference Group helps the Council identify community needs and priorities in relation to local arts and culture.
What the group does:
- Keeps Council informed about the artistic and cultural needs of the community.
- Helps develop a strong profile for the arts in Cardinia Shire.
- Contributes to Council’s arts and cultural programs and services.
- Provides community input into the delivery of Council’s Arts and Culture Policy, Action Plan, Public Art Policy and Arts and Cultural Facilities Feasibility Study.
Nominations For The Cardinia Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Reference Group
Cardinia Shire Council is currently looking to appoint five new voluntary members to the newly formed Cardinia Arts and Culture Reference Goup. We are looking for people to nominate valued members of the community, and for self-nominations.
Council is especially interested in nominations of those who are passionate about arts and culture in Cardinia accompanied with relevant skills and from diverse backgrounds including:
- a diverse range of interests and experience, to provide a balance of cultural disciplines and creative industries, including but not limited to the performing, visual and literary arts
- representation from all levels of involvement in arts and cultural industries, from recreation to professional
- First Nations or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse individuals
- Representation from the geographic diversity of Cardinia.
The objectives of the Cardinia Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Reference Group
To provide advice, feedback and input into:
- the development and review of arts and culture related policies, plans and studies
- emerging trends and opportunities for Council’s arts and cultural programs and projects
- emerging arts and culture capital investment opportunities
- To advocate for the local arts and culture community by keeping Council informed of the present and predicted artistic and cultural needs of the community.
- To comment on priorities for arts and cultural development within the municipality.
- To maintain communication between the arts community of the municipality, and Council, in arts and cultural related disciplines.
- To contribute to the development and enhancement of a strong, recognisable public profile for the arts in Cardinia.
- To monitor community feedback and changing trends regarding arts and culture engagement.
Selection Criteria
Nominees for Cardinia Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Reference Group membership must be able to:
- demonstrate a connection to Cardinia Shire; live, work or play within the municipality
- have an understanding and association with the cultural aspects of the Cardinia community
- have a general understanding of art and cultural development as well as specific local knowledge
- be able to consider the direction of cultural planning in a fair and equitable manner for all members of the community
- have the ability to report the Arts and Culture Reference Group discussions and deliberations to the arts and broader community for feedback to the group
- be able to work as part of a team
- commit time and contribute to Committee activities and tasks outside regular meetings
- commit to the required duration of the term (2 years).
