Input welcome! Draft Open Space Strategy

Published: 6 March 2023

Cardinia Shire Council invites the community to view and provide feedback on the draft Open Space Strategy.

The purpose of the draft Open Space Strategy is to establish a clear and comprehensive plan for the provision and access, protection and management of public open spaces within Cardinia Shire for the next decade.

The draft Open Space Strategy, which was developed with input from community members, looks at the current open spaces across the shire, their placement and connection to residential areas, and provides strategic direction for open space over the next 10 years. As we strive to provide equitable provision of and access to open space, engaging our community in the development and implementation of the Open Space Strategy is a key priority and vital to its success over the next 10 years.

Cardinia Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Tammy Radford encourages community members to provide their feedback.

“The draft strategy outlines Council's vision for open spaces. Open space is land that is publicly owned, freely accessible, and able to be used for recreation, leisure and/or environmental benefits.  This includes spaces such as nature reserves, parks and playgrounds, and sport and recreation reserves”.

"Open spaces play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our community, and we want to ensure that our open spaces are accessible, welcoming and meet the needs of all members of our community”.

“The draft strategy provides a framework for Cardinia Shire Council to plan, deliver and maintain open space now and into the future”.

“We understand how important open space is to our community, so I encourage everyone to take the time to review the draft strategy and provide feedback.  We want to ensure the priorities of the strategy truly reflect the aspirations of our community," she said.

The consultation period closes Sunday 2 April 2023.
