No plans to close Pakenham Outdoor Pool
Cardinia Shire Council has confirmed it has no plans in place to close Pakenham Outdoor Pool or develop the site for other purposes.
This announcement has been made to address inaccurate information regarding this matter that is circulating in some sections of the community.
Recognising that Pakenham Outdoor Pool is ageing, Council is currently looking into several ways to improve the facility.
An engineering consultant has been engaged to conduct an assessment and produce a report on improvement works that may be undertaken on the pool. The results of the engineering assessment are expected soon and works recommended in the report will be scheduled subject to priority and budget availability.
Bird laser light technology is also being trialled to deter ducks from entering pool and its surrounds and causing mess and nuisance. The lasers do not harm the ducks and have been used successfully by other councils.
The pool shell will also be cleaned before it opens for the summer 2023-24 season, and the pool’s cleaning schedule has been increased.
Council has allocated $360,000 towards its four outdoor pools in the 2023-24 budget to cover maintenance, operation, management and minor capital works. It is also working on a new aquatic strategy, due to be completed in late-2024.
