Congratulations Richmond Football Club!
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Brett Owen: "On behalf of Cardinia Shire Council, I would like to congratulate our AFL partner, Richmond Football Club, on its momentous win in this year’s AFL Grand Final!"
"It has no doubt felt like a long 37 years for the club and its fans since the last premiership win but this year we have witnessed an incredible season for the Tigers; rising from 13th on the ladder to take home the flag. On top of this, Dustin Martin became the first player in VFL/AFL history to win the Brownlow Medal, Norm Smith medal and a premiership in the same season. An incredible effort!
"All the players, team captain Trent Cotchin and coach Damien Hardwick, everyone at the club and all the faithful fans should be very proud of the hard work and dedication that has gone into this achievement.
"Cardinia Shire Council is pleased to partner with Richmond Football Club and we would like to thank the club for its ongoing commitment to connecting people through sport in Melbourne’s south east region. I am sure the team could feel the immense support of the club’s strong and loyal following in Cardinia Shire as they performed throughout this season and in the final!
"It has been a pleasure to welcome the players to our local grounds this year, giving our own aspiring athletes and fans the chance to see the players up close and to take inspiration from them. We look forward to continuing this partnership and the region’s support of the club into next year.
"Once again, well done and congratulations!"
