Applications for Cardinia Community Leadership Program open

Published: 20 April 2018

Applications are open for the 2018 Cardinia Community Leadership Program from Monday 23 April to 5pm, Friday 18 May 2018.

Delivered through a partnership between Council and Leadership Victoria, the program helps develop the leadership capacity and community participation of some of our community’s emerging leaders.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Collin Ross said the free program provides up to 20 participants with an opportunity to grow their leadership skills and networks, and learn from the experiences and advice of a host of guest speakers, local leaders, and program alumni.

“This program covers a wide range of topics that will assist participants to build their capacity as leaders within their local neighbourhoods, groups or organisations. Participants can hone their skills in setting and achieving goals, becoming better problem solvers and innovators, and learn how to best collaborate with others,” Cr Ross said.

“I would encourage all aspiring and emerging leaders within Cardinia Shire to apply. If you are passionate about your community and are ready to learn, connect, and grow so that you can confidently and competently lead the way to a better future for your community, then this is an opportunity you cannot pass up.”

Chief Executive Officer, Leadership Victoria, Richard Dent OAM said: “We are excited to collaborate with Cardinia Shire Council to develop the leadership capacity of local community members, and empower them to implement community projects for positive social outcomes.”

“Throughout the Cardinia Community Leadership Program, we will see an increase in the capacity of community members to take up roles on community advisory committees, community activities, advocacy and participation in decision making processes,” Mr Dent said.

The six-month course, which runs from June to November, is designed to prepare participants for success in their community leadership roles. This includes learning how to effectively contribute to decision-making processes, think creatively and logically about addressing community challenges at the local level, and how to strengthen relationships through valuing and respecting diversity and inclusion.

Places in the 2018 program are limited to 20 participants and to be eligible, applicants must be:

  • a Cardinia Shire Council resident
  • 18 years or over
  • already involved in the local community in some way
  • able to attend all program sessions.

Applicants should review the information available on Council’s website to ensure they are able to commit the time and effort required to undertake the program.
