Cardinia Shire’s Social and Affordable Housing Strategy launched
Cardinia Shire Council officially launched its first Social and Affordable Housing Strategy last week.
The strategy identifies the social and affordable housing needs in Cardinia Shire and provides a framework to enable an increase in the supply of affordable housing.
It looks at ways to support housing diversity, and respond to needs within our growing community and the recent legislative changes in the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
At the launch, Council also introduced the members of the Social and Affordable Housing Partnership Group, which includes members of the community, housing sector, Councillors and Council staff.
Council has collaborated with the Social and Affordable Housing Partnership Group and consulted with community and industry to develop the strategy. The group will now guide the implementation of the strategy and local actions.
The launch, held in Homelessness Week was attended by over 80 people from the community as well as the housing and development/property sectors.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Graeme Moore said the strong attendance reinforced the importance of the issue within our community, and highlighted the strong support we have to deliver quality-housing options for our more vulnerable community members.
“The strategy reflects Council’s commitment to building a liveable community where residents have access to safe, affordable and secure housing,” said Cr. Moore.
