Things to do at Emerald Lake Park
About
Rail enthusiasts come to ride Puffing Billy Railway or see the miniature model railway. There’s a playground and exercise equipment for a workout. You can follow a walking track, cool off in the summer wading pool, fish for trout or hire a paddleboat. There are plenty of great places for a picnic, free barbecues dotted throughout the park and the Emerald Lake cafe.
Local histories and heritage
If you are interested in local history, visit Nobelius Heritage Park and Emerald and District Museum at the western end of the park.

Choose from shorter trails for a relaxing stroll or a longer more challenging hike.

Virtual Ranger trail

Water activities
Swimming in the lakes is not allowed as it is not safe.
Outdoor pool (summer only)
Cool off the kids with a play in the outdoor pool this summer.
The pool at Emerald Lake Park is approximately 25 metres long, with a depth ranging from 50 cm to 1 metre. Lifeguards are on patrol, but an adult must supervise children at all times.

Paddleboats
Paddleboats on Lake Treganowan are available to hire. For opening hours and more information go to Lakeside Paddleboats
Fishing
Take the kids fishing or cast a line at Lake Treganowan. It is restocked with rainbow trout in July and September each year. Do the right thing when fishing:
- make sure you have a Victorian recreational fishing licence
- follow daily catch limits. See catch limits on the Victorian Fisheries Authority website
- remove the hook before throwing back a fish
- bring your own bait; digging for worms is not allowed
- help prevent injuries to birds, animals and other people – dispose of all fishing line and unwanted hooks.

Barbecues
Our electric barbecues are free to use, and there’s no need to book.
You can find a barbecue near:
- boatshed shelter: 1 double barbecue
- boatshed shelter picnic area (next to the lake): 1 single barbecue
- cafe: 1 single barbecue
- Gus Ryberg Amphitheatre: 1 double barbecue.
The barbecues at the Messmate and Lion's Den shelters are no longer in use.
Emerald Lake Park cafe
The cafe serves hot and cold meals and snacks, tea, coffee and ice creams. You can take away or eat in. You can reserve a table and choose from indoor and outdoor seating. To find out more call 0409 187 005.

Puffing Billy Railway
